When to visit the Alpujarras and the coastal resorts.
January / February
Often countryside covered with pink almond blossom, Sierra de la Contraviesa well worth a visit.
5th January the night of the Three Kings, most villages have processions led by horses, with sweet throwing and lots of fireworks and present giving.
Fiesta time early February for the San Blas celebrations.
Ski season in Solynieve under way, well worth a visit even for non skiers.

March / April
Stunning time of the year to see the wild flowers growing in abundance in the countryside areas.
March, village picnic on a particular day where bread with baked eggs in has to be ordered in advance.
Easter is an important time and the church event are worth seeing, especially the village processions.

May / June
The snow usually has disappeared to be re placed by lots of greenery.
Lots of agricultural fiestas to celebrate various food seasons such as broad beans, tortillas, Serrano ham amongst many others.
Popular time to visit the quaint beach resorts, generally good weather to be able to sunbathe.

July/ August
July music and bonfire fiesta, similar to Guy Fawkes night in Britain.
August, the mountain village of Berchules has a New Year celebration, where around 10, 000 people visit for the week-end.August, many Spanish families are all on holiday and the village swimming pools are normally the best places to go in the late afternoons. Many of them have eating places next to them.
End of August, traditional fiesta time, where many families return to the village they were born in and have their annual holidays at their village fiesta.

September / October
Time to pick fresh figs from the trees, two main types.
Chestnut fiesta in Mecina Bombaron.
An excellent week long wine fiesta in Cadiar, where Paella and free wine are served
The weather is changing and everything turns to Autumn shades.

November / December
Many of the villages are decorated for Christmas.
The churches have present giving ceremonies.
New Years Eve is a great time to try the local custom of eating 12 grapes in the last twelve seconds before mid night.
Sounds easy, but normally the pips are left in!
